Disability has always been a part of Jay’s life—because Jay’s older brother Ali is disabled.
Ali lives with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, dysphagia and severe intellectual disabilities. Growing up, Jay saw how complex the disability system was to navigate—especially when it came to finding good care, with support workers who had positive attitudes towards disability, along with experience and qualifications.
Jay knew his lived experience of supporting a loved one with disability could help make a difference. And so, fresh out of high school, Jay began studying a Diploma in Business Management at the Australian Careers Business College in 2013, before switching to a Diploma in Community Services and Certificate 3 in Disability Services from NSW TAFE. And in 2014, Jay became a support worker with the Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
Over the years, Jay also worked as a support worker with Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre, Flintwood Disability Services, and Life Without Barriers, one of the largest not-for-profit disability providers in Australia. He gained a lot of experience working on-the-floor with people of all ages with different disabilities and support needs, particularly in areas like supported independent living, specialist disability accommodation, day programs, and providing individualised programs to support clients with complex behaviour needs, where two to three staff would be required to support one participant for optimal care
Jay was promoted to a Team Leader for Life Without Barriers in 2016, before becoming a shared Supported Living Coordinator in 2018, where it was his role to manage four team leaders, up to 80 staff, and eight supported disability accommodations, along with aged care programs. He even briefly worked as the Acting Operations Manager, overseeing the entire disability program in southwest Sydney for Life Without Barriers.
While grateful for the wealth of experience and knowledge his past roles had taught him, Jay wanted to create his own disability support business, where he could focus on individualised care, and supporting people and families through their disability journey—the kind of care that would have made a huge difference to his family growing up.
That’s why Jay created Enhance Disability Services back in 2020, Now, with over a decade of industry-leading experience, Jay uses his expertise to lead his team and provide quality, compassionate care for their clients, with tailored support for people with complex needs.
